The Walk
Druridge Bay is just south of
the town of Amble. You can park at the Hauxley Nature
Reserve. This reserve has a visitor’s centre
and toilets. The facilities are free, so please
make a donation in the centre. Spend some time there
overlooking the lake with its many waders, foul
and other sea birds.
When you are ready, look for the costal path way
markers. When on the costal path head south. There
is a chance to visit the south hide in the reserve,
but I chose to look for a way onto the beach. Once
on the beach it’s simply a case of walking
as far south as you like. The beach is stunning.
Open and sanded, with some rocks that add to the
attraction as well as creating large spectacular
breakers.
About three kilometres south of the Hauxley Nature
reserve is The Druridge Bay Country Park. There
is a visitor’s centre with toilets at the
park. This also has an excellent lake you can circumnavigate.
I took the costal path back north to Hauxley Nature
reserve. Severe erosion of the path meant taking
the adjacent road part of the way. As the costal
path is well prepared, the walk between the Hauxley
Nature Reserve and Druridge Bay Country Park is
easily accessible all year round for all users.
